Location: The Phoenix at Clarendon Metro- 1020 N. Highland, On Highland between Washington Blvd and 10th Street

Description: Come join fellow AYDs for our September monthly membership meeting.  Our topic this month is Affordable/Universal Health Care Coverage.  Learn more about this important election year topic from speaker Allison Cook of The Urban Institute.

Saturday, September 20, 2008
Start: 10:00 am
End: 12:00 pm

Barcroft Park
4200 South Four Mile Run Drive (near the corner with Walter Reed Drive)
Arlington, VA 22204

Hard to believe, but summer has less than a month to go! To say goodbye to summer, Arlington Young Democrats is joining with Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment for a stream cleanup at Barcroft Park just a couple of days before the autumnal equinox.

We'll meet next to the parking garage before heading down to the stream. Wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves if you have them. If you don't get along well with poison ivy, long sleeves and long pants are also a good idea.

There's parking available at Barcroft, but it fills up fast if there are lots of soccer and baseball games at the park, so carpooling is encouraged. You can also take the 22A bus from Ballston to Four Mile Run Drive & Walter Reed Drive (more public transit options at wmata.com). If you get lost, call AYD Community Service Director Miles Grant's cell phone at 703-864-9599.

Once the cleanup winds down, we'll head up to Shirlington for lunch. Don't forget to wear your AYD or campaign t-shirts. Hope to see you there!

Did you know you can vote starting September 22nd?
Don't Wait in Line on Election Day.  Vote absentee via mail or in person!

You may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot, especially if your employer is not located in Arlington. If you work in a neighboring community, why not avoid the stress of waiting in a long line to be late for work or rushing to get to the polls before they close? Vote absentee instead!

Come join several other AYD members in canvassing important local areas and talking to voters this Sunday! We will be focusing on voter identification and distributing information about voter registration, how to vote and when/where to vote; as well as sharing with undecided voters why we feel it is incredibly important to elect Barack Obama! Not only is this the number one most effective way to help out with a campaign and to reach out to voters, it is also a lot of fun! Following our efforts on the ground, we will be going to a local restaurant/bar to watch the Redskins take on the Cowboys. Join in with us! Meet up at 12:30 in Court House and we will arrange carpools to the canvass locations.
