Through planning and programming, the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, the region’s leaders are deciding on how to spend $1.5 billion in transportation funds during the next six years — decisions that will shape the future of our communities.
Guest speaker Katie Cristol, Arlington County Board Chair will join us to talk about how creating walkable, bike-able transit-oriented communities has benefited Arlington residents.
As our region grows by 1.6 million people by 2040, we need to support planning strategies that help reduce driving demand. Otherwise we face both far worse traffic and the severe negative impacts that result from widening roads at great cost to adjoining neighborhoods. These investments should provide more transportation choices, so we can walk, bicycle and use transit for more everyday trips; promote economic development that benefits all parts of the region; and preserve green space and rural areas.
Additional forums will be held in Vienna and Reston.
